Question Hard brake pedal or more??

On a 300D 1983,could a hard brake pedal and an engine that wont always shut off be all related?
What do you think!

Yes. There is a vacuum problem somewhere. Both the brake booster and shut off valve are actuated by vacuum.

Sounds like a leak in the main line between the pump and the booster. Check for broken nubs where the other vac circuits run of that line. If everything there seems alright, make sure you check the pump itself. Do a search, as this is one of the most often discussed systems of this car.

Guys, is this the infamous check valve that could be causing me havoc in regards to my brake pedal being hard?

I have the same problem and was able to isolate one leak but am in process of re plumbing the connections for fear of more leaks, but that is definitely what the problem is.

My vac pump went out, and didn't notice it til I pulled into the parking lot and tried stopping with stiff brakes. Of course, the car would not shut off on it's own after that either.
