I'm seeing tons of VWs in those pictures too; two different colored red Jettas, a Fox, and an OLD MkI jetta 4 door.
Why is it that we see so many 190Es in the salvage yard? Perhaps they aren't worth nearly as much and they cost a lot to keep up? That's what I think. The 300Es aren't as common as the 190E though. I have yet to see a W123 wagon in a salvage yard. I have only once seen a W202 C-Class; I have never seen anything newer than that. As previously mentioned, W201 and W124 gassers as well as W126 gassers seem to be run-of-the-mill when it comes to Mercedes-Benz in salvage yards. W126 and W123 diesels aren't that common. From my experience, W126 gassers outnumber the diesels probably 4 to 1, if not by a wider margin. To answer previous posts - I think a "junkyard finds" sticky is appropriate - kudos to a good idea by Jim B - and alfa 75 - keep that camera incognito. I actually might head to the salvage yard today...we'll see what's out there.

I see all sorts of cars that make me sad in the yards. It's the Euro versions that really make me They're rare to begin with and to see how some of them are trashed, it's amazing.
The wrecked ones I can understand, but near complete and clean ones?

I see PILES of them here, most are in Dallas and quite a few in the Houston yards. Florida and California also seem to have a plethora of them floating around.
Last one that made me sad was a stripper 280SE. Debadge, crank windows, no rear speakers, FOUR SPEED, manual climate, etc. It had a dented in fender... seriously. Suspension was great. Interior was clean, I can't believe someone let it for for $189.

I used to feel the same seeing various models of American classics of the 50's and early '60s when I started visiting the first self service wrecking yards in the late 70's and early 80's. I still remember a few nice cars there including a really clean complete rust free '58 de Ville coupe with the tranny in the trunk. I saw it about a month later in their crushed stack with all it's sheet metal still intact.

What killed me was the amount of '50's and '60's stuff that used to be in the yards. I used to love looking at the Nomads, Edsels, etc and trying to justify taking a whole one home. I was able to get parts for my 1967 GTO from the two or three that were in the yard. Now everything gets crushed so quickly.
I was working on three W126's (all gassers) in my local yard, He also had a few W123s (240D, 300D, 300TD) and some newer cars. They CRUSHED all of them! Broke my heart! especially as they were in basically good shape. The W126s were all front end collisions so everything from the firewall back was good. The W123s looked like they were there for no reason except for age. It is too sad to think about...

Rain? Snow? I'm positive I remember seeing this car around 2002/2003 in that spot.

Pull-A-Part? You can buy whole cars there. $7 per hundred pounds is what I heard. We were out at the Atlanta North yard one time and someone had brought in a mint fifth-gen Cadillac Seville. One of the PAP employees picked it up cheap before it even saw the lot.

That's the REAL tragedy. With the price of scrap so high these days, they don't even last long as donor vehicles. I recently saw a 115 and a 108 in the local PNP. Both were horribly rusted though. Seeing something like that in a scrap yard isn't so bad...
