Is this really that rare???
Just saw this on my local CL site and thought it was pretty cool. How rare are these things? Anyhow, not mine and I have nothing to do with it. Just a fan of cool old cars...

I saw it too. Nice, but I think the seller is out of his mind.

Dude, I didn't even know that it existed. I have yet to see any W115 station wagon ever, let alone in the U.S.
Uh, yeah - I'd say it's rare. It's worth every penny to the right person. That person will have to be an MB fanatic who thinks the Stroke-8 is the most legendary car ever created, and the touring version of it is God's personal chariot. In other words, the guy wants a lot. |
I think there is a tread on this car already. I think its call something like a "group buy"
|
Is that a factory thing or an aftermarket conversion?
|
From the other thread about it, it seems that it is a scam because it has been posted so many times on other craigslists. The last time it was on Portland craigslist it had a picture of the interior from the rear hatch, and by looking at the tail lights and color of the car it was clearly a totally different car! Looks like they have got smart and pulled that picture off the ads.

What is the angle?
I have never seen one that looked like that, so a photoshop is possible. It does look a little funny in the rear end. Tom W |
in the picture on the left, those tail lights look a little too....drawn or imported, and then blurred. is that just me?
|
Go check it out and take pictures, we want to know if its real or not.

This car is real. They were built by a Belgian company to specifically make the "Kombi" or "Universal" style wagon for Mercedes from 1964 to 1973. They are rare but not as rare as this seller is claiming.
Here is another example of this same car but in not so pristine condition. http://w115.mercedesgek.nl/ima.htm |
