nah- the last one I did took less than 2 hours. this was my second time around , so I was familiar w/ the prcess. the only special tool you really need is the 4 pronged socket. got mine shipped from ZDMack for around $35.

He knows I need to leave Mon. morning and said it shouldn't be a problem.
I trailered the car over to his shop this morning and after lunch it was inside. I am expecting a call(and the bill) sometime tomorrow.

Up and Running Again
Picked the 300D up yesterday after plan "B" was finished.
Way too much damage to the bearing seat to reuse and ended up replacing trailing arm with a new bearing kit installed. Indy was great and had car done as promised and on budget. Anyone in this area of PA. (pottstown) needing help should check this guy out Jim "Red" Kieffer. Does anyone else get the "shakes" when they don't have a benz to drive?

Geez, I would hate to know what "on budget" was, but you will drive with great piece of mind from here on out.
What happened with the bearing seat? Be sure and pick up one of those hub nut tools for when the other side comes a calling..... Have a safe trip the rest of the way.....

I recall having a similar job done a few years ago, but I don't remember the cost. I'm pretty sure it was less than $1000, but I might of had some other stuff done at the same time.

Usually, these situations always turn out much worse from a cost standpoint because the shop knows they have you over a barrell. |

Not exactly. Although this mechanic was unknown to me, Not to others in my family. I come from a long line wrenchers and this area is of my birth....old stompin grounds if you will.....and he did remember the family name. Still I was happy to not have to do it myself and the price was very fair for the holiday season.

Well, having a connection with a mechanic (or any tradesman for that matter) is always a benefit. I cringe at the thought of the M/B at an unknown mechanic...........far from home. |

That is scary, but I've gotten lucky a couple of times. I had a dealer in chicago refer me to a good indy down the street (he couldn't fit me in right away, I forget the issue) and I found a good indy in DFW from the phone book when my alternator died and I wanted it replaced before I drove home (this guy used a W123 300TD as his shop car). When in doubt, I would just find a dealer.
