My 1.9Tdi Audi A4 years ago had a failed MAF, the symptoms were as you described, it wouldn't even get 80mph eastbound on the M62 over Saddleworth.

I took the benz into the dealer today, £230 they fixed it and now it SHIFTS. Apparently there was a hole in the inlet manifold, air wasnt making it to the cylinders! very goooooood car now
