Coast to coast run (almost) Harrisburg PA to Palm Springs CA

Harrisburg PA to Palm springs Run

Got a wagon a few weeks ago to drive across county, but I just didnt trust it, so I drove my 5 speed sedan. It ran flawlessly and got pretty good milage... heres the data.

Harrisburg PA to columbus OH - Hi temp- 40 F. Terrain- mountainous. Speed-pretty fast
375 miles 12.2 gallons - 30.7 mpg

Columbus OH to West of St louis MO - Hi temp- 45F Terrain - Flat Speed-faster
437 miles 13.5 gallons - 32.3 mpg

St louis MO to OKC, OK - hi temp 50F Terrain - mostly flat Speed - Faster
406 miles 12.7 gallons - 31.9mpg

OKC to amarillo TZ - Hi temp 55f Terrain - Hilly Speed - Really fast
407 miles 13 gallons - 31.3 mpg

Amarillo tx to west Albuquerque nm - temp - freeking freezing! Terrain - Mountainous - 2 snowstorms, heavy construction, and a serious accident.. what did I do to anger the travel gods??
334 miles 12.6 gallons - 26.6 mpg

Albuquerque NM to yucca nm? - temp -50F terrain - hilly Speed - Really fast
377 miles 12 gallons - 31.4 mpg

Yucca nm to Palm springs CA temp - 55F Terain - flat Speed - Really fast
234 miles 7.5 gallons - 31.2 mpg

TOTal milage - 2570 miles
total fuel - 83.5
Avg milage - 30.77mpg
Driving time - approx 37 hrs.

I drove as fast as I could reasonably get away with... 80mph-90mph range, I think you could safely qualify it as a "Heavy Foot' top speed 105. Coming thru NM and CA I was going 95 and barely keeping up w/ traffic ?!?

I burned/leaked one qt of oil.
I lost a glowplug somewhere in AZ... very smokey start that morning
Car was pretty heavily loaded with luggage, tools, spare parts and my dog.

Wow, that sounds like a good trip.

How many days did this take?

I am toying with the idea of a solo cross country trip next year, to Wash DC from California, (and back) as I have never seen the country and have time now.

A journey like that sounds good, and I am glad you got there in time for the Holiday

thanks for the reply jim, It took 4 days, I drove 6 hrs the first day, 12 hrs the 2nd and 3rd days and 7 hrs on the final day. I rigged up a hand operated throttle. It was a lifesaver, I'm not sure I could have done it w/out it.

BTW - the cheapest I paid for diesel was in OK $3.09 a gallon.

I'll be driving back on I-70 in a few weeks.

Edit - I totally forgot to mention that I'm a little insane, and in the interest of fuel savings, I removed the power steering belt and I removed the mechanical cooling fan and replaced it with a pusher electric cooling fan (which I didn't even use!?!) Engine just runs cool (non-turbo) and the ram air effect is more than sufficient.
