T124 rear door panels in a W124: THEY FIT!

I found the mother lode, a '91 300TE in the junkyard, with a blue interior!

I removed the door panels, perfect with the wood and a speaker in each door, and installed the RR one on the RR door from an '87 300D. And they said it wouldn't work (evil laugh).

The front ones will be a bit more challenging, because I will have to cut the inner door steel away where the speakers go through the door, and mount four M4 bolts to secure the speaker enclosure to the door.

So the answer to whether all four door panels from the sedan are interchangeable with the wagon, ... is yes.

Second to this was the plastic lower-door panels and rocker-panel covers from the TE: The rocker panels, door cladding, and front/rear panels fit both the wagon and the sedan, no difference. The only difference is the rear bumper, so I will need to get the chrome cap from a later sedan for my car to complete the upgrade package. Also, the jack-pad rubber from the early car will not clear the plastic rocker-panel covers, the later style is round and I wasn't able to remove any of them from the donor car without breaking clips. I hope they're cheap (doubtful).

Update underway.

Now to find a late 124 dash to complete the wood upgrade inside.

About 6 months ago I installed 1994 E320 front and rear door panels on my 87 300TD and the rear panels had to be modified slightly to work. I used the leather, not MBTex panels.

I had to peel the tex back some from the top rear of the panel, grind away metal and panel backing and re-glue the tex back in place. It was not too hard, but it was not a direct replacement kinda thing either. The fitment problem is where the rear door molding near the small window meets the panel.

I did use 1995 rear window molding and this may have been the fitment issue for me.

I used '91 TE panels in the '87, work great so far. There could be a difference in the later ones, I don't remember a change in the '94/'95 interior panels but don't have any to check.

What's the hot-rod project about?

I'm slowly collecting those lower outer trim panels (need 3 more of the ones for the doors) to update my 87 and am still looking for the trunk plate filler panel from a 91-93.

fwiw, the same applies to 123 wagons and sedans as far as the inner door panels go, I have sedan door panels on my wagon.

The rocker-panel ones have been the sticky point for me, too long to ship cost effectively. Don't forget to grab the chrome strips from the bumpers, have to get the bumper off to release the clips.
