Safety switch: Low fuel
Is there a safety switch that is activated when the low fuel light comes on? Was really low on fuel today, turned on a sharp turn and the engine ran out of fuel and died, tried to start but the starter wouldn't engage tried a few time but nothing . Car was in park when I tried to start. Added some fuel to the tank started right up. What's up with that!!
It's not the starter or the battery, both new 1985 300SD |

Dumb question: did you turn the key all the way to the "off" position before you tried to restart?

SAFETY NOTE: Before you turn the key to the off position to try to restart it, make sure you pull off the road and stop first, the steering wheel will lock!
There is no safety lockout on the fuel tank level, but any time you cycle the key to crank the engine and let it spring back, you have to turn it all the way off to reset the starter lockout before it will crank again.
