300d 2.47 swap/speedo?

Looking for a 2.47 pumpkin that will fit into a 300d. I know this thread has been started before, but cannot find info on converting a mechanical speedo to an electronic one. I located a 2.47 differential with an electronic pickup instead of the mechanical one. I thought i saw a diy for the electronic speedo replacement, but cannot find the link. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Or can i replace the electronic pickup with a mechanical pickup?

Thank you anyone,
Jesus M.

The pickup is in the transmission, not the differential.

You can swap the pickup system in the transmission tailshaft housing. As for the speedo/sensor wiring, you're on your own, I have no idea.

2.47 pumpkin

Forcedinduction,

Thank you for the info. I found a seller down the road from me that has a 2.47 pumpkin for sale. I did not realize that the speedometer gear was in the transmission. By any chance could you tell me where the identification numbers are on the outside pumpkin to identify a 2.47 rearend and what they should be? I saw some old posts you had from about two years ago regarding the 2.47. Could you tell me what year speedo would work also? This is for a 84 300d.

Thanks,
Jesus M.

Should be any W126 380, 420, 500, and 560SEL. The 300SE ,SEL used a 3.46 ratio and all the diesels were a 2.88 or 3.07. On the back of the diff there will be a bare bit of metal sticking out past the cover, clean the grime off and it will have the ratio stamped on it.

Any speedo from an MB that had a 2.47 diff will work at the right speed. Getting it to fit may be a different story.
