Rear end thump

The other day I was driving along and started hearing a sound from the read. It almost sounded like a hoe-ram, if you know what that is. When I checked it out I found that once per revolution of the rear wheel there was a thump. Each time it happened the valve stem was in the same position. I bounced up and down on the back end and it would quit for a minute. It seemed to be worse under a load. Seems like since it is once per revolution the problem would have to be between the differential and the ground, not in the differential. Or am I just being hopeful. I replaced the half shafts 2 years ago.

Thanks

belt seperation on a tire??

how do they look? maybe jack up the rear, spin the tire and watch for out of round. it helps to use a block of wood, hammer, etc resting very near the tire as a reference point.

Did you look at the halfshaft boots??

Sounds like your are on the right track and will find what is the cause soon. But, I wouldn’t discount the idea that one of the half shafts has gone bad; even if the boots are in good condition..

half shafts or cv axle

If the sound was the half shaft or CV axle, it may happen random, and come and go, but over time more consistent. Sound should be in rhythm with the speed of the tires, until you take you foot off the go pedal. Mine usually stopped or almost stopped making the noise when I came off the pedal, and it was the CV axle....
