Loss of power After Tank Removal

I recently removed and cleaned my fuel tank on my 1982 300SD.(No Water or anything left in tank).....It now runs ruff...What I mean by that is that the idle is a little off, but when I rev it up it sounds fine. And when I drive it ..it looses power when it shifts.(Automatic Transmission). First thing that comes to mind is a vacuum hose. But, any line I took off I put back....
Please Help...Thank You

I'd suspect you are drawing some air in the fuel system...make sure any connections you disconected are good and tight now.

The fact that you are able to start the car tells me the vacuum lines are ok. Did you bleed the top part of the spin-on fuel filter? Also, try pumping your primer hand pump. Pump it at least 30 times.

Any air in the fuel lines and inside the IP can cause starting and running problems.

Today the car will not start. If it is the vacum where would you start to check for the problem with it? Went back and retightened everything and bleed the spin filter. Thank You any help is appreciated.

If you disconnect the fuel line at the primary filter and point it toward the ground, does the fuel flow?
If no, there must be a blockage in the line.
If yes, then reconnect it, and reprime.
Then loosen the injector lines at the top of each injector and crank the engine.
You should get fuel dribbling from each one.
Report back with the results.

make sure the filter is full. pump hand pump a lot. try to start. pump some more.

I bet you have a loose line- letting the fuel bleed back or out while parked.

Then loosen the injector lines at the top of each injector and crank the engine.

The IP never gave me problems before.
But, now when I crack the line and turned it over..not even a dribble.
I even took the line completely off....nothing came out of the jet when I turned it over.(was expecting a stream to spray out)
I then took the jet completely out of the pump...had the wife turn it over....just too watch the well slightly fill then empty...."empty" Where does the fuel go???

Thanks for your Time

This sounds very similar to what I experienced recently on the TD. When I replaced one of the metal fuel lines from the injector to the IP, it seems that air got inside the IP. The FSM talks about air in the IP. I did not realize then that air can get inside the IP. Not untill I pumped the hand pump until the IP buzzed (per FSM) did it start. I am suspecting you have the same problem.

I have hardly seen this discussed in the forum - that the IP can get air resulting in difficulty in starting. My suggestion is get everything back on, tightened and bled, then pump the hand pump untill you hear the IP buzz.

The buzzing means that the IP is vented and good to go.

You never actually said if you ever hand primed it...did you use the hand pump to reprime the system after you opened it?
