The Rally Website is Up! Note the Diesel page

http://silverstar1000.com/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1

I'm very happy with it, though the text still needs some tweeking...

What I will be adding:
A better map
A GMAIL account email:
Truck and Trailer following the race
Cars 2000 or newer cannot compete for the main prize, but for the 3 category runner up.
Delete the conflicting prize data in the about the race section
Space things out a bit so its not one big text block.

What do you all think of it? If you see any spelling errors or things I can improve, please let me know. Only 2 sets of eyes have seen this before you guys, so I'm sure there's some.

Unfortunately I will not be able to participate in the entire rally because of the very distant starting point. Any way for me to join in as it passes through Denver or at least meet up at Glenwood springs.

Good Job !!!!

Kudos to you, Tyler, for taking this project upon yourself. I plan on burning biodiesel the entire trip......still thinking about how to make this happen.

It's a helluva first attempt, Tyler. Nice site layout and easy enough to find whatever info. you need, at least in its infancy. With your proposed changes it'll be even easier and more informative. Good luck with it!

Too far for me this time around (mainly due to time constraints of travelling to and from the rally) but hopefully it'll be successful enough for you to hold subsequent ones across the country and closer to the east coast.

Looks great! One thing you might consider is changing the wording. Is it really a race? I went on the Hot Rod Power Tour in 2006 with my wife and with the thousands of cars, there was no racing. It's all about the drive. The great people we met, fascinating cars and breathtaking sights.

I would think that the emphasis would be on taking in the scenery along the way and visiting historic places and cities.

I think you're going to find that you'll be hard pressed to knock out 275 miles a day for 4 days straight while still trying to enjoy the drive, leisurely lunches and stopping at various roadside attractions. It was all us "Long Haulers" could do to make it to the venue each day.

For an idea of what my vacation was in 2006, this was it:

Day 1: Orlando, FL

Day 2: Drive 113 miles to Gainesville, FL

Day 3: Drive 229 miles to Perry, GA

Day 4: Drive 231 miles to Columbia, SC

Day 5: Drive 290 miles to Roanoke, VA

Day 6: Drive 295 miles to Harrisburg, PA

Day 7: Drive 151 miles to Englishtown, NJ

Day 8: Long Haulers awards ceremony, Englishtown, NJ

The 40 miles or so of the Blue-Ridge parkway had to be the best drive of the entire trip. The worst part though was the 1100 mile drive home...and I bought a car in PA that I picked up on the return trip and towed it about 1035 miles back!

We tried to stay off the interstates as much as possible to make sure we got to see as much of the country as possible. Sure, we could've taken the interstates, but that would defeat the purpose of the tour.

I do find the price a little alarming though. I know the Power Tour is a sponsored event, but I only paid $65 for 7 days of car shows, with lunch provided each day. I'm trying to provide constructive criticism, not trying to bash the race. I would just hate to see this turn into a "guy with the fastest car and best radar detector wins" contest. I wish I could participate, but the start and end points are too far away. I just can't justify over 3200 miles of driving...to have an 1100 mile race.

*EDIT* Another thing...ask the mods to make a sticky for you. If you REALLY want this thing seen and on top of things. Once you get some more bugs worked out I'd start cross-posting it on other forums too.

Good old Joomla. You running 1.5 or 1.0.13? Unfortunately the date seems too close for me to make arrangements this year. I might bring the 300 down if you run next year.

I wish I had sponsorship, believe me, Im working on it. Without sponsorship with this model for the rally, I'm going to break even at clsoe to 30 cars. If I had 1000 cars in it, wouldn't that be something, but unrealistic.

As for the route, I agree with you on knocking out 275 days would be a bit boring. That's why the first two days are the longer hauls, the third is more like a half day, and the fourth is shorter too.

I do think I need to make more emphasis on the vacation part of the trip.

As much as I would *really* like to go I don't think I can pull it off this year. Between fuel, hotels, food, etc It'd probably cost me over $1000. That with a roadtrip to Chicago already planned I'll be joining you guys when you do it next year.

I don't think having a "best time" winner, even if there are checkpoints, is a good idea. I honestly think that most people would pay a $50 entrance fee to provide things like a trailer for those that break down and other such services. No prize needed.

Thanks to everyone who already pre-registered. My next project is working on the packet and getting the hotel stuff put together; I'm guessing I'll be done by the end of the month.

For those of you who are planning on joining shoot me an email at on the site, so I know just how many of us are coming. Include your Mercedes Shop screen name so I know who you are.

Not to nitpick, but none of the states on the rally route are in the midwest.
