Antilock idiot light
Hey Guys,
My 1985 300sd "Antilock" light came on after a trip to the self service car wash to remove decades of grime. I seem to stop all right, but I am a very cautious driver so a crisis hasn't yet come my way. I took the front tires off and blew out the sensor looking devices atop the caliper. No help. What should I do? Joe Marroso |

The wheel speed sensors are held in by an allen bolt, remove and clean, also blow out the toothed ring exposed by removing the sensor.
If that doesn't help, compare the resistance of the L to the R sensor, see if one is shorted or open, I don't know the correct resistance but in my experience the wire to the sensor causes more trouble than the sensor. Does it come on right away or after you start to roll?

The light comes on after 20 yards or so.

Most likely the sensor, but could still be the pump assembly, rare to be anything other than the sensors.
Where are you located?

Isn't that sensor for brake pad wear?
I have a similar anti-lock light problem on the same car model, but I thought that sensor on the brakes was the wear sensor indicated by the light with the circle.
Could someone verify? Thanks. |
