240D Heater Valve Removal

OK, I know how to unbolt the thing from the firewall, so I get half credit.
However, the two temp dials inside the car that control the heat move a wire back and forth which connects to arms on either side of the heater valve and opens and closes the path for coolant flow for each side of cabin. OK, cool design.
Now, how on earth when removing/installing this valve do you get those wires/cables loose without destroying the plastic arm and tab that they are tightly wound around????

I have a donor on Scar, and the one on China is puking precious MB coolant and distilled water at an increasing rate.

**not a very good pic, but the only one I had showing valve was of the Squash**

They do just slide off. Since they are so rigid, you'll probably have to remove the grommets surrounding the cables from the firewall to get enough flexibility. If this isn't enough flexibility, in addition you'll have to disconnect them at the control panel on the center console.

Thanks EZrider. Fixing to go out there and tackle it. {I hope....}

Well, I got the valve replaced with a minimum of blood loss. Screwdriver slipped when trying to pry off one of the wires and took a hunk out of the left palm.
The big key to getting the wires/cables off the old valve was to file down the nubs on the end of the linkage arms so that the end could be pried off easier. After I figured that out it went really fast.
While doing that I sure wish I hadn't seen what appears to be a leak at the top of the tranny slave cylinder....... I'm trying to convince myself that it was coolant from this leak.
Anybody want odds on that one.......

Well, the second one leaked pretty much like the first one, so China has her 3rd valve this week! Came from a 230E at PNP that has been a very good donor for several of us in the area.
This valve seems OK so far......
