MaxOverDrive

Anybody here dealt with www.MaxOverDrive.ca
I'm looking at a car:
http://www.maxoverdrive.ca/mercedes.asp?id=114
It's 8k but looks pretty nice
They import cars from Japan and resell them.

Imports

There was a discussion elsewhere on this board about the impossibility of importing Mercedes from the lower 48 provinces; how does this company do it? Is it because they import from Japan or are a registered, licensed, etc., firm? Just curious, sorry to not be able to answer your question.

CDN$8K is a lot for one of those but the odometer reading, if honest, is very low. The company is in Vancouver? They don't specify the year; might it be one of those that had the rod-bender 350 engine?

It is by no means impossible to import to Canada from the lower 48. But it is a paperwork thing, & I would (in general) prefer to stick needles in my eyes to doing government type paperwork. year is 85

I almost bought that one!

Hey that was the very one I was looking at when I started looking for a benz. Vehicles from Japan are generally very well cared for (if you know how much it costs for them to keep a car like this, you'd care for it too!) and I believe the mileage is low due to the fact that they like to keep (as opposed to drive) their cars.

But, well, it just cost too much for me here. So, I ended up finding the one I have now, with 380k on the clock. Still, she starts up every morning with nary a cough, and as long as a car does that, one can't complain

Importing W126's doesn't seem to be a big deal. Bruce M. always has a bunch of very cherry Japanese W126's around.

The best examples seem to come from Japan, so if you want to get a really cherry W126 thats where you have to go. This also seems true of 80's AMG cars.

I have Bruce's email if you want, you should contact him and see what he says.

Thats a strange 300SD, I wonder why it has euro lights and bumpers? Possible the PO liked the look. I was under the impression that any diesel W126's in Japan came for the US originaly. Looks good though, if its really a legit no BS car $8k is fair, I'd pay that. 99% on the market are beat.

MaxOverDrive

Well I've searched Google and here looking to see if a bunch of folks had a good or bad experience with MaxOverDrive.
I found a few mentions but nothing much either way.

The car looks real good online. I've got a lot of work on the shop and the money will be a stretch but I'm thinkin of flying over there to check it out and maybe buy it/drive it home.
If I do I am going to have to let the old 89 Chevy Caprice go to make some room. Feels a bit like treason even to consider as it was my Dad's last car. Will share if I do
