All Velours interior pieces are gone.

I just remembered, the cowl drain tubes are available, but ... they only have the right side. There are part numbers for the left and right sides, but the MB computer system refers the part number for the right side to the left. When I bought the tubes, I received two for the right side. I had to cut the tube for the left side in half so I could rotate the gasket end and glue it to make it fit the firewall hole. They also are molding the new tubes out of RED rubber not black.

I also make sure that I speak with the Manager of the parts department when I call for a part. I have frequently been told things aren't available by employees that either don't know how to find it or don't want to find it. I was told by my local MB parts department, that it would take a minimum of 3 weeks (since it had to come from Germany) to get a new hydraulic line from the SLS valve to the accumulator. After trying to find an alternative, I called back and ordered it anyway (with the manager) and the part was ready for pickup in 2 days.

That's good to know, from all the discussions of looking for them I thought they were not available.

In the context of what is expected from USA car makers, it's indeed amazing. BMW is same as Mercedes BTW. VW isn't.

Question Parts

I have been searching for the silver trim ring that goes on the ignition switch for,,months..a year maybe. MB houston says they cant get them and many many OEM stores etc say none in stock or not making any longer. Anyone have 1-2 to sell me?

Man that would be better than life!!..Looks like crap without that ring...

Things are going to get tough for W1123 and W126

My buddy who works in Suttgart for DB ( and who I had sent out to find cool Euro parts to sell here) has told me that the W123 and W126 cars and parts are getting very rare even in Germany! He could not find a lot of the parts I sent him to locate. He told me that most of the 123 and 126 cars and parts have been shipped to the Middle East (esp. Turkey) and cannot be found in Europe any longer. I do not know what the MB Classic Center will be doing to get parts for US spec cars, but for Euro cars things are going to be bad, unless you can find a contact in Turkey!

On a good note, he told me that things for W124 and newer cars are plentiful in Germanyand that he could supply almost any Euro spec part including AMG exhausts for these cars. However, with the dollar so low Vs the Euro we decided not to import anything now as the costs would be prohibitive.

True, but you can build a classic VW from JC Whitney parts, not so much with a Benz.

It would just take forever since none of the bolt holes line up right.

Looks like the W123 will soon be discussed in the "Vintage Mercedes" sub-forum as they should change the sub title to "1985 and earlier..."

Classic center said NOT available. They considered starting them again but the cost to us would be $3000+.

Well, for $3K we might as well just have a custom shop make a copy from scratch.
