Stuck window on 85 300SD

My drivers' side front window has been having trouble going all the way up and then coming back down. I'm pretty sure it is rounded teeth from years of seating the window at the top--won't know until I take the door panel off. Yesterday, the motor quit working and the window is stuck partially down (about 3 inches)--not so good in WI winters. I am going to order a new regulator and motor, but I'd like to get the window all the way up until it comes. Can I seat the window up with the regulator out? How can I free the motor to release the window so that I can at least keep it all the way up? I've used the search feature, but I haven't seen the answer to these questions (although it has been helpful in getting the door panel off).

Thanks,

Alex

I am not sure about your model, but on my 83 300D, there are three bolts on the back side of the motor holding it to the regulator. They are in a triangular pattern and accessible with the door panel removed. You should use duct tape around the panel opening, to prevent the metal from slicing your arm as you work. After you have removed the motor, the window can be pushed up and held in place with either a wedge or a piece of pvc pipe, with a notch in the top, inserted through the panel opening. Using the pipe method you can reinstall the door panel until tou get your parts and the car will still look like it can be locked up.

Finally got the parts and the time to replace the regulator/motor assembly and it went fairly smoothly (30 minutes) to replace everything. What a great feeling to have a working driver's side window! This site has been indispensable.

Before I seal up the door, what grease/lube should I use on the tracks/motor/regulator? Thanks for any quick replies.
