Replacing swaybar links -- HELP-- yes, I have used "Search"
The vehicle is a 1980 300SD. Both rear swaybar links are broken from pulling too heavy a trailer. I have the replacements, and I have read every post on this forum having to do with how utterly simple this job is, and how even a moron can do it, so please take it easy on me. For the life of me, I cannot figure a way to get to the bottom nuts. There is a backing plate or rock guard that blocks a straight-on visual, and not enough room for me to insert a wrench. I desperately need some quick advice on what it is that I am doing wrong. Does the backing plate have to be removed? If so, how do I do that. It is really frustrating to read how simple a job is, and then learn that you haven't the talent or sense to get said job done. Any help would be appreciated. Thanx.

Thanks, Raymond, for the tip. My problem is that both links are totally shot at the bottom "knuckle". I am not seeing any outside nut to turn while holding the inside one, either. I'll try to post a pic later in order to make my problem easier to understand.
