Help: Installing injectors 87 300SDL

I知 in the process of purchasing some new injectors for my 87 300sdl, I thought about just replacing the nozzles, but at 208,000 miles, I should just do everything right the first time. I知 wondering if anyone has any advice or what to look out for or problems I might have. I plan on doing the install myself. I知 going to have them pop tested by a local shop to make sure they are set right. I致e ordered the injectors and crush washers so that is taken care of.

Has anyone written up a how to guide to installing the new once? I also emailed dieselgaint but I知 waiting for a response.

Thanks

return lines & deep socket

Get some new return line tubing, the old ones often leak. I did a compression check and put in new return lines. I cut one a bit short so it made more of an inverted V shape than an inverted U shape. That one leaked a bit until I cut a longer piece.

You need a pretty deep socket to get over the injector. I used a 1 1/16" socket. A "cheaper" socket is sometimes better since it has less bracing at the top and fits over the return fuel connections. I bought a Kobalt brand from Lowes.

Don't replace them. First have your local shop test your old ones and if any fail fix just those.

Worst waste of money ever, the new nozzels are junk. I spend $60X6 + some testing to sort out the 4 bad ones that were junk right out of the box. Finaly got a decent set, and 4 years later and now they are acting up again.

Replacing all 6 injectors just because is a waste, more so considering that the injectors that you are replacing are better then the new ones. They are just nozzels, as long as the pop pressure is even across all 6 and the spray pattern is nice they are good.

i agree with this 100%, i used to work at a diesel engine shop and i would test each injector that came on each engine, most of them we just slapped new injectors in and made sure the pop pressure was the same. Why would you order new injectors when the only thing that wears inside them is the nozzle? the injector itself is basically a shell that holds them together.

I'm only paying $223.46 for peace of mind, Not a bad price. I don't mind paying a little extra.

Six SD265 nozzles $19.70 x 6 = 118.20
Six KCA springs $4.26 x 6 = 25.56
One set shims = $80.00
Total = $223.46
Shipping begins at $8.00 with two day for additional cost.

Well make sure you test the new ones, because 4 out of the 6 Bosch rebuilds I got were bad out of the box.

It's unlikely that they were Bosch rebuilds.

Well wherever Worldpac gets their injectors from, they came in Bosch box's.

As soon as I get some time I'm going to yank them and have the Bosch shop test them all, after 4 years it should be very interesting.

I think that's the problem. Somebody rebuilds the injector with unknown parts and they stuff it in a Bosch box. Bosch certainly doesn't rebuild them.

No I doubt it, they are probably rebuilt in Mexico or something.

But if they are in Bosch box's they represent Bosch and are paying to use that name. So if the rebuilds suck, its Bosch's fualt.
