"New" Injector Pump

Well not exactly "new." It is new to me. I yanked it off a 300D at a Pull-a-Part. The only problem w/ it that I can see is that the entire alda box is off of it. My question is this, I spaced out when I took it off and I forgot to check to see if the car was a Turbo or not. Mine is a Turbo. Can I just check the part # to see if it is a Turbo???

Also I want to store it in the closet and I want to get it somewhat clean. What is the best way to clean one of these??

Thanks in advance

Is the aneroid or a hole where the aneroid went on the TOP of the govenor? And how much did you pay for the IP?The square cornered thing on the top of the IP govenor is the aneroid if it has it or the round hole for it it should be a turbo pump.

Here is a link to my recently acquired spare IP. Is it turbo or not?? How can I tell?? No alda box on top.

I am obviously new to this MB diesel thing but I am loving it. Is there any way to test this to see if it is good or not (besides putting it on my car)??

I paid $25 for it w/ the injectors

Not sure if it goes to a turbo or not but is that rust I see in that second pic? If so, and the inside of that pump has been exposed to the elements that's definitely not a good sign of its condition.

That is a turbo pump. It has the RIV port on the side.

If it's been exposed long enough to rust, you should return it and look for a different one.

Are the injectors still good even if there is some rust?

There is another there on an 1980 SD Turbo, is that the same IP that is on my 1984 300 D Turbo??

I think you got a good deal. If you bought used injectos alone on Ebay they would cost around $10 (or more) each + the cost to ship them. If they are no good you could use them as cores to exchange for rebuilt injectors (core charges are $17 and more for each injector). The only way you will know if the pump is still good is to clean it up and try running it on an engine or have a fuel injection shop test it (many shops do not like to test a used pump as a dirty pump can contaminate their calibraiton oil and their lube oil).
I bought a used IP on Ebay thinking I was going to test it on my engine and resell it if it ran good. I found out that I had to remove the oil filter housing/oil cooler tubing/hoses in order to exchange the pumps so I never did that.

I like the idea of getting a fuel injection shop to test it for me. I have no experience in dealing w/ those types of shops. What is a fair price to get it tested?? I am not 100% confident in my mechanic abilities and I don't want to go diggin around in my engine if I don't have too, just to test a part..

Yes! If you put it on an engine and something in the IP govenor sticks (possily due to that rust) you could have a run away engine!
As far as price goes in 1986 when this type of pump was new we never had any come into our shop and a 1986 price would not be much help.
Just call them on the phone; you do not have to commit yourself to having the job done.
My guess is that they would also want a complet pump.
If you live somewhere where they have tradeschools and there is a diesel fuel injection classes where they rebuild the pumps and calibrate them they also might be able to help you.
If it was me and my car is running OK I would not invest money in the pump when I do not need it.
Also a word of caution there is 2 nuts (size 12 or 13 mm), one on each side of the 5 fuel injection outlets (where the delivery valves are). Do not loosen them; this is how the fuel output is adjusted when they calibrate the IP. Each one is adjusted individually and a little movement changes the fuel output alot.
I still say you got a good deal.
