Looking at an '86 190D...won't cold start
Was told it has compression issues. Any idea how difficult it is to find a motor for one of these cars and swap in a new one? Of course I have to move "stock" first to have room for another project...but I liked the 190E I parted out and a diesel would be awesome.

Never believe anything that you are told.........unless you verify it yourself.
To conclude "compression issues" requires a proper compression test.........and a person who can interpret that test. Furthermore, "compression issues" can be rings or valves.........one is relatively cheap.........one is not. Start looking at the basics..........fuel..........glow plugs..........and see that everything else is proper. If it still won't start, then look at compression. |

Sorry...I've got that whole job thing until Friday...and 2 cars to prep for the scrapyard in the meantime.
I could just drop in another motor if it ends up being bad. The price quoted (will reveal that later) is good enough to warrant that.

If you can get the permit for a building (and have the space) then a steel building with a vast footprint can be had fairly cheaply. Add a concrete pad and possibly a lift (of shelves and a forklift for parts cars) and you're all set.
That's my plan at least (three car garage with vaulted ceilings, put in a screw lift to stack one car on another, yielding at least 4 cars of space. -nB
