vacuum pump rebuild
I have an 83 Mercedes 300 DTurbo. I am working on joint door lock and slow shut off issues that occur at the same time. The vacuum switch on the ignition is oily. The pump seems to give a consistent 19 inches of vacuum. I would imagine that it needs rebuilding but want to verify before going to the trouble
Thanks Ben |

not necessarily, but if the pump itself is only putting out 19 mmHG directly (no other components connected) then it may be tired). fresh ones put out 23-25mmHg
oil in that ignition lock indicates a faulty vacuum shut-off valve on the back of your IP. that explains the slow shut off and your other vacuum ailments. youre lucky! thats an easy one. do a search, JimmyL posted the DIY I referenced to replace mine. 1 hour job... Heres the part: http://catalog.worldpac.com/mercedesshop/sophio/quote.jsp?clientid=catalog.mercedesshop&cookieid=2730TGOG129Y18YOEV&baseurl=http://catalog.peachparts.com/&partner=mercedesshop&year=1983&product=D2020-11537&application=000004561 You also need TWO of these: http://catalog.worldpac.com/mercedesshop/sophio/wizard.jsp?partner=mercedesshop&clientid=catalog.mercedesshop&baseurl=http://catalog.peachparts.com/&cookieid=2730TGOG129Y190CVY&year=1982&make=MB&model=300-DT-001&category=All&part=Shut+Off+Valve+Gasket I also think its fair to say that you can purchase another brand's part at a fraction of that price on other sites. you also need to do a good job and clean out the oil from all the vac lines and make sure it hasn't gotten into other places like the brake booster. good luck, dd
