New Glow plugs 2.2 n/a diesel
 

This past fall I replaced the glow plugs in my 84 190 diesel and wanted to share with you folks what I've found now that winter is well in hand. I put in a set of (hold your breath for a dirty word) Champion glow plugs. I was interested to see how they worked on a cold day since they are rated at 175 watts not the standard 140 watts of the bosch and beru. Up in our town I have to special order either of those brands and I needed to get the plugs replaced. Anyhow, so far they are firing the engine just fine down to 0 degrees farenheit with only cycling the glow plugs one which has been a real delight to me. I'm waiting for a good cold snap to happen, hopefully on one of my days off, so I can unplug the block heater and give the plugs a shot at firing in the minus double digits. Sure they work, but for how long, no one on this site is gonna say they wont work for a short time but they will burn out years sooner than the recommended brands, Anytime i have had them in my diesel they have burnt out.

I have had good luck with champion glow plugs in my diesel Volvo and member Stevo has said he uses them in his Mrcedes to good effect!

Well we got down to 5 below last night and it fired up with just a couple of cranks and that's with the rotella 15w40 in it. I will say this...with the different brands that have been in this engine previously it has never started this nicely...ever. Prior to putting these plugs in I wouldn't have dared try firing it at this temp or lower. Now though I must wait for the temp to take a nice dip on my weekend so I can see...sadly this side of the mountain a good cold snap is rare as hens teeth. I'll keep you posted,
