General Question about my 240D
So, if no one has noticed... I'm just one of those tech savvy kids who knows about everything electronic and minimal mechanic...
and I'm wondering about the options on my car. 1979 240D vin: 12312310108299 4 Speed Manual Crank Windows No Sunroof It has an alpine cass w/ 4 old old old alpine speakers and im going to take a wild guess and say those aren't origional... lol MBtext interior Things I'm suprised it DOESN'T have: No Stereo Fader... anywhere No factory Power antenna switch (2 toggle switches mounted below light switch on lower dash cover.) do most of them NOT have pass side mirrors? Cruise Control?!? was it an option? Things it DOES have: Origional Floor Mats <<< GREAT SHAPE 3 ashtrays for the front... FULL (yuckies) 1 wood 2 black ... yeah, I don't really have anything for this... Things I've been suprised by: My AC controls... seem different... I have the 2 heat knobs driver/pass w/ the fan control inbetween and then above it is the AC knob with the went open/close control right below it I've seen just a few like that and others with like the rolley wheels does that vary by year?!? the stop sign previously welded into my previous floor pans... Gas Milage $5bill under back seat $18.42 scattered around rest of car

Welcome to the world of 240's... It sounds like you have the manual climate system, which is typical on a 240, (as were manual windows, taxi model). They are somewhat of a coveted item since you never need to worry over the troublesome CCU module problems of the automatic systems. Sunroofs on a 240 are rare but do exist. Passenger side mirrors were an expensive option both on the 240 and 300, so most of them were sold without. 79 should be a w123 chassis, which your vin also supports, so if it is like both my 80 and 82, the power antenna switch will be located at the center console the left most toggle switch right under that lever for closing off the center vents. Cruise was an option too, I've only seen one with it though (my 82) and you're very lucky if they even work right when you do have one. The radio fader switch shold be on the floor console behind the shifter lever, near the hazard switch. If you really want to know what the car was from the factory, you could run that vin thru the russian site. It won't tell you all the available options, but you'll know what it was when it was first built. Hey, just think of it like this: All that cash you found in the car, it came with the first tank of fuel for free.......

My '81 240D has cruise, its a manual tranny ,too. It also has the passenger side mirror. I can't comment much on the other stuff. I've only driven it a couple of times since I bought it over a year ago. I've been cleaning, repairing and replacing parts.

Sounds like you got the typical 240D.
When new, if people were going to option up a 240D, they just ordered a 300D. Rare to see a loaded 240D, unless the original owner just had to have either a manual transmission and/or the manual A/C controls. Jim

I've got an '83 240D which has the manual CCU cruise control power sunroof right side mirror automatic transmission trailer hitch and everything is in C, not F too. Its pretty optioned out and I love it.
