GO TO SPEEDWAY @ NORTH FAIRFIELD & KEMP!
i havn't been able to balance my checking account properly... i always seemed to have a lot more money...
thats b/c when i use my card (fifth third) at the pump... its only charging my account a dollar!
not kidding
its $3.59 a gallon... but i keep getting it for one!

Sometimes a vendor charges a dollar before you pump to ensure it is a good card, then charges the rest. sounds like someone will be making a lot of charges soon, might hit your account all at once.

seems like you need to walk in the station owners shoes for a while.......

ya, that's standard practice for the pay at the pump stations. if you have a balance less than the amount you actually pumped, not only will your bank debit your account, but you will be hit with $40.00 or so in fees for NSF... for each transaction since you made the $1 purchase... I got dinged for over 700.00 in NSF fees alone one month...
don't be stupid. balance your checkbook...

Yea dude its not free. But can't say i didn;t think the same thing when i first got a card. They charge you a dollar to make sure that your cards good, then depending on the station, will take the remaining balance you pumped a day or 2 later. So make sure you have money in your account or be screwed

I have to laugh, this reminds me so much of Y2K, all these friends and paople telling me "Yeah, go ahead and charge the heck out of your card the night before, and buy whatever you want, their computers will crash and they'll never know!......" Oh how naive they were. I knew better, anyone with any sense would have paper or copied backups of everything knowing it was coming, (which it never did anyway), and really all they'd have to do is change the date in their computers to dec 31 and they'd have it all if it had happened. A few people lost their arses over that, not me though.:P

It all comes down to that saying about things that are too good to be true.

Cash is King!!! I stay away from plastic, just gets us in trouble. Checks
do the same thing if the balance isn`t kept up to date.

with plastic it just seems there`s no value to it.
With Money there`s value, it`s real. when it`s gone, you`re done.

Years ago we could float checks. use to do that buying hay. buy a load,
haul butt for home, get it sold and delivered. get the checks back in the
account be for the checks I wrote cleared. usually had about 5 days.
wasn`t too bad when a bounced check was $3.00. hate to think what
they are today.

Even if you were charged only a $1.00 a gallon, when the glitch was
fixed since they have your account you would have been charged the
full amount.
But it sounds good, $1.00 a gallon. Never see that again.

with a lineup like that i wouldnt expect to see a post like this. whatever you do, do count on having that "extra" money. it will cost you bigtime.

Debit cards do have some interesting quirks (I don't use credit and you really can't use cash for everything), for example some hotels will get authorization for a significantly higher amount than the room charge to cover incidentals. If you use a debit card, that extra cash can be unavailable for quite a while (days to weeks). That can add up, a few weeks ago I had a $1000+ discrepancy between my "balance" and "available balance" for about a week (I spend about 1/3 of my life in hotels).

You also can't really trust that your actual balance agrees with what the automated phone/computer tells you it is, my 16 year old learned that lesson by running up about $130 in overdraft charges on her debit card in one day.

Trick is just keep the register and live by it. And watch out for those pesky ATM delays... that's the only time I've ever overdrafted, the money was in the machine but they hadn't credited it yet.

LOL, I gave up trying to balance mine about 15 years ago, just too many automatic deposits and withdrawals too keep track of, not to mention both my wife and I using the same account (often from opposite ends of the country). Now I just glance at the statement to make sure there's nothing to weird. So much for these things making life simpler.

Any after thoughts matthias. Its a conscience thing. Some people car rationalize anything to justify there acts. The jails are full of them. I hope this makes you think about what you just described your self to be to everyone.

When the station pings the account for the total amount due, someone is going to be very indignant. It's bad enough to think you are getting one over on a business owner, but advertising it on the internet.........

The funny thing is that most of the time, people who have the McMansions and nice cars are the one's that do these types of things to hard working business people. I wonder how many of those nice cars are owned free and clear, I know all of mine are.

The other day, I filled up, forgot to pay, and simply left. Even though it's a pre-pay station, they always turn the pump on for me since I'm a regular. An hour later, and two towns over, I realized what I had done. I called the station to apologize, and the bubbly girl said they firgured I was being a space cadet that morning and to come in and pay when I got coffee the next day. When I did go in, the girl said that she knew I would make it good becuase she remembered how I returned the extra five dollars she gave me in change a few months ago.

Don't think your getting fuel for only a dollar! Your card is charged a dollar to open the transaction and the rest of the money you spent will post to your account up to 4 days later! This is why you don't pay at the pump with a debit card!!!

Believe it or not, your better of paying with a credit card than a debit card. A credit card is automatically opened for $75 and if you close the pump with less than that, your credit limit is reduced by that amount almost immediately! And banks love to hit you with fees!

Look, I know this is off topic, but after having my ID stolen and learning about how credit and credit scoring works, I author several websites including those in my signature. If you have bad credit, then check out my credit card website. Some of these come with guaranteed approvals and it's never to late to start building a credit history. In the section for bad credit credit cards, Orchard bank cards are the easiest to get and I added these sites here because so many have no idea where to apply where there application will do the most good.:)

If it wasn't for my credit cards, there is NO WAY I could have ordered a radiator form Phil at a rush when I needed my car and was in between paychecks and have him send in NEXT DAY SERVICE!!!! Pay the balance off every month if you use it for fuel and the interest is irrelevant, but still CHEAPER than if you pay the bank for pay at pump fees! The very first time I used one of my new cards was here at Fastlane! I only had that one for emergencies and that was an emergency!

Sorry for the long rant, but I've been burned by bank cards long enough to know better! And no, I don't get a Transaction commission when you apply for a card through my website, just a better chance of being approved.:D

I included my sites and this post here because I thought that with so many posters saying they had credit card to order parts with, that maybe this time it's appropriate. Credit cards don't get you in trouble.;) Abuse of them will!:D
