HELP! 85 190D manual clutch issue

I went out to my car this morning and the clutch pushed right to the floor with no resistance. It reached -5 here in chicago last night so I assume the seals shrunk and the fluid leaked out. If I warm the car up and then add additional fluid will this get me home? Where is the resevoir? Will any brake/hydraulic fluid work. Any help is appreciated, just trying to spend as little time out in the cold as possible.

Thanks

You probably have a leak in the clutch system or brake system and the fluid level dropped below the clutch supply nipple.

Yes, normal brake fluid will get you home.

You do need to find and correct the leak for sure.

good luck

It resides in the engine compartment right above the steering column, on top of the master cylinder which is bolted to the firewall. It is a transclucent white plastic resorvour about the size of a large muffin with a black plastic screw on cap.

Remove the cap and look inside. If the fluid is lower than the line embossed on the outside, fill with the type of brake fluid recommended in the owners manual.

If this does not make you sure of what to do I suggest you find a more experienced friend to show you the ropes before you go too far.

Good luck.

If the fluid is still up you most likely have lost a seal either in the master cluch cylinder or the slave unit. The fluid is just going by it.
