1987 300 SDL throttle linkage quagmire

Greetings everyone,

I recently decided that the bowden cable and throttle linkage on my SDL needed to be adjusted. My symptoms were rapid upshifting to fourth gear by 20 mph, as well as the overextension of the linkage rod/sockets by the PO (who had done so to increase idle speed after disabling the ELR, which I later fixed). I removed the linkage and began to adjust its length, naturally according to the wisdom of a shop manual, by screwing in the sockets. Lo and behold the rod sheared off, leaving one socket with a short length of rod stuck inextricably within in.

I can order the sockets, but not the rod; so can anyone tell me the length of the original rod so I can find a suitable replacement for it at a hardware store? I'm in Toronto and the likelihood of finding a replacement at a junkyard or a dealer worth their salt is slim to none.

Thanks to all in advance...

Damon

Not a problem to measure for you....but I am not real clear on which rod you are writing about.

Thanks! Here's a pic...

OK, if you refer to the attached diagram, it's the straight rod (with the sockets on each end) that is almost perpendicular to the bowden cable. All this is behind the IP not far from the firewall.

Thanks again,

Damon
