1983 300D Insturment cluster
 
My odometer was not changing and when I pushed the button in to reset something burnt out on the circuit board. Does anyone know someone who works on these or have one for sale? hayes53@hotmail.com

You appear to be describing two separate issues.

#1 The odometer is entirely mechanical in operation. So nothing to burn out. I successfully repaired my odo (it had stopped operating) by following the procedure on diesel giant's site.

#2 Re: 'something burnt out'. This may just be coincidental. The odo reset arm inside the instrument cluster is metal, but it's designed to clear the circuit board. Has anything else on the instrument panel stopped working? Did you notice a burning smell and/or see smoke?

Fairly easy to pull the instrument cluster. A visual inspection should reveal the problem.

the odo reset button is attached to the instrument light dimmer switch... other than that, nothing really electrical connected to the odo reset button.... there are ground connectors for the rest of the instruments on the back side of the gauges... pretty easy to pop it out and have a look...

This is a pretty easy fix, the lever that the button pushes off of is metal and is near the circuit board. Any 5 year old with a phillips head and an soldering iron can fix this. The odo requires a flat head and needle nose iirc. Check DG's site. Otherwise use Fastlane!

Instument cluster
 
I have had the cluster out and the circuit board has a burn out on it. It may be coincidental but it did burn out when I tried to reset the odometer. I have also lost the panel lights when this happened.

The metal odo lever would probably have burn marks if it caused an electrical short. Any sign of this?

Check all of the cluster lights. It is possible (but unlikely) that one of them shorted out.

Pictures would help.

Well, I 've seen the odometer's metal reset arm fall off it's shaft. I suppose it's possible for the loose arm to fall against the circuit board and cause a short.
