glow plug removal :om602

So.. we tested the glow plugs on Eagleco-94's latest aquisition.. the 190D with "low compression"

all 5 tested to infinity on the ohm meter(resistance?).. which means they are bad according to diesel giants page.. verified by testing all of mine which are good

I did notice pulling the intake manifold is going to have to be done.. what else?

190D om602 non turbo with a 5 speed

that's it, just the intake/crossover.

the injector lines have clips - they will break, order new from a dealer. Be sure to ream the holes of any carbon, use anti-seize on the GP threads.

do NOT strip the bolts that hold down the intake - they are threaded into the alumn head. Now is also a goos time to replace any gaskets.

the GP's will have a rail strip, and the nuts are captured in the strip (hopefully) making things a bit easier.

My mechanic buddy got my GP's out w/o taking my intake off of the wife's 2.5L 92 300D, only difference is it is in a bigger body (W124) then your car. He only took off the cross over pipe and that was because we were removing the injectors for rebuilding and pop testing.

Non-Turbo.. no cross over pipe

so.. just.. unbolt it from the head and it will pull off.. any special gasket needed or can I reuse?

these.. clips.. break? what clips...

can I use a lubed drill bit to remove carbon?

also.. anti sieze on the plugs.. this is normal for the aluminum heads

-You can reuse this gasket. I dont know what the torque reading should be, but be sure not to over tighten, follow a pattern when wrenching them down to keep pressure even on the gasket.

-Theres clips that hold the injector lines from vibrating, you'll need to remove a bracket that's has these clips, may break.

-Reamer is perfered, theres one floating around the tool rental forum. (if not, you can find them for $30 if you look hard enough - and it's a good investment)

-I used the highest temp copper anti seize I could get my hands on. I personally don't want to have the plugs freeze in the head

When you put it all together make sure that the lugs on the end of the wires attached to the GPs do not touch the block. I missed one and fried the giant strip fuse in less than a second.
