Wagons are so versitile; so many uses. Haul the same amount of people as an Escalade, fold flat cargo area. Perfect for what you need it for.

How much are they, if I may ask?
I am using the word overhaul - after seeing pictures of the interior - needs new front seats, new carpet all around, glove box was pryed open, so there are two craters on the dash at the top of the opening.....

The engine looks ok, but it does appear to sag a bit in back - so some SLS work will be needed.
Haven't seen it start or drive - but he says all the windows and door locks work...

an excellent looking TDT in Dallas. $8000, 190k

Another great one in Houston: CHINA BLUE!!! $5500, 200k:
http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=237873362&dealer_id=61918615&car_year=1982&model=300TD&num_records=&systime=&make3=MB&make2=MB&start_year=1981&keywordsfyc=&keywordsrep=&engine=&certified=&body_code=0&fuel=&awsp=false&search_type=both&distance=0&marketZipError=false&model3=300CDT&model2=300TDT&search_lang=en&make=MB&color=&keywords_display=&page_location=findacar%3A%3Aispsearchform&min_price=&drive=&default_sort=priceDESC&max_mileage=&style_flag=1&sort_type=priceDESC&address=67230&advanced=y&end_year=2008&doors=&transmission=&max_price=&cardist=549

Both of these are well worth looking into; the price on both cars you listed seems high.

China blue... if only it were closer.
Ohh...I am in love with this CAR! It seems too good to be true. If you don't buy it...

That Dallas one is actually in Fort Worth. I looked at a beautiful white 300TD at that same place about 7 or 8 years ago. Really perfect car, had about 100k on it. They wanted $5500 for it, which sounded too high at the time, so, like a dumbass, I didn't buy it. Some time later, I enquired about it, and was told that the guy who bought it, wrecked it shortly thereafter. I would bet money that this is the same car. I remember the very distinctive pinstriping on it.

congrats... read my pm. Tell us all about her; what's her story?

Start a new thread with the two cars together.

A perfect pair: Orient red 240 stick and a China Blue turbo wagon.

A wife's thoughts... ~ I am now one of you CRAZY obsessed mercedes people :)

Hi y'all....

This ride all started with my husband buying his 240D manual....I thought it was loud...stinky...but I did feel like a movie star in such a beautiful, classy car. And our son, 15 months, LOVES this car!!!!!!!!

I saw how much my husband fell in love with his car. He is always out fixing it, tweaking things to make it perfect, even washing it inside and out - a lot! And I bugged him so much for being addicted to his "online friends" as I call y'all. Sometimes he spends more time in an evening with y'all, than me! ha! ha! A few times I even got a little jealous.

I soon realized my 1989 Jeep cherokee (YUK) was completely neglected...and harder to fix and ended up in the shop a lot (hate that car)....

BUT I GOT SMART!

I thought, "...hey, if I had a mercedes too, then it would be well maintained for me...."

So, we sold the Jeep (no soul) , and he bought me a 1982 300TD wagon this weekend - my little (well, not so little) "china doll." I am already falling in love with her...and I actually look forward to spending time with my husband on the forum learning and helping him in the garage with her!

You guys are the greatest! I am now converted .....and I think you guys ROCK! especially the guy from Kansas that tipped off my hubby on my girl!

I tell my husband I am a mercedes snob now - I just can't drive anything else!

Wifey

Yes, I feel for the commoners and their boring cars. How does the other half live?

Tom you are killin me!
The 81 300D is out, and it is a NON-turbo!
In 81 they did not build a Dt. The 81 300d would be of course in that case a non turbo.

Why am I killing you? ....oh I bet because I quoted my book. Actually the reason I quoted the book is that because the book could be wrong or more likely in the case of Mercedes, there is a good chance that they actually DID build some non turbo CDs early on even if most might have been with turbo.

Nah., you were killin me cause I had moved on from the 300D (N/A). I had lost interest due to a 300Dt and a 300TD that were also available.

Plus I had already realized you were absolutely right that this 300D was not a turbo - like I said the seller had conveniently cropped out the right side of the trunk in the photo.
I had assumed a turbo, even though there was none.

But, what can I say - I am a research scientist, so I can only admire and appreciate your dogged determination and research!
