I have to add sense ive been around here and there.....if cali sucks so much then why does EVERYONE always come here? No matter what state i was in whenever people heard i was from cali they all said the same thing for some strange reason .......wanna know what they said? "If your from california then why are you here?" The west coast is a hot spot why? Because we have it all....mountains...lakes....oceans....snow....deserts...you name it...biggest trees...oh and not to mention what do you get with other states?....twisters tornadoes...blizzards...and whats cali get ...whats the WORST thing...a little shake rattle and roll every? oh yeah not THAT often...unlike other states and their natural hardships EVERY YEAR!........... what does a cali accent sound like people....anyone????? well we dont have one because we are the people you watch on tv.
My point is people...the state doesnt suck....just the people running it and the actual people that live here and enjoy it are the last ones to look to for whos running it.

I'm assuming that is why my dad got one and not me. he has an F350 thus registered as a commercial vehicle. Interesting, have to wait and see if I get one I guess. I have an F350, personal use, but it has the famed "commercial" plates, yet another sneaky loophole, good catch there.

Many of these pickup trucks are diesels these days. My friend on here diametricalbenz just bought a '96 Dodge quad cab diesel pickup in Phoenix and drove it to California where he lives, and got California plates on it yesterday.. He got the VIN# verified and paid a huge fee, and had to go to a truck inspection operated by the CHP and have it weighed, after paying the huge sales tax! A royal PITA. I would bet you he had Commercial Plates put on it, because he had to. There is really something to worry about if all pickup trucks, diesel or gas, have to have commercial license plates on them. It is not a hard leap of logic from that ^^^^ to this new anti-Diesel law. It could affect EVERY diesel truck, even pickups, in California, I think. It should be derailed.

one of the reasons to rid the state of those damn dirrrty diesels, "cancer-causing..." -For that being the first listed reason to pass the law, whats next? everything and anything causes cancer. Every apartment complex has signs posted about how various things on the grounds could cause cancer and birth defects. Computer stores have very similar signs warning against the same things. as for mr. LA, those older diesel trucks might add to some of the pollution issues of that whole area, but its not the only issue. All of the other gasoline vehicles on the road, constantly, dont help. the massive amount of people crammed into a small area arent helping the problem. also, you choose to live there, so... and the north vs. south battle over water, large issue. i have an uncle thats doing very well for himself being a lawyer that deals with the water. the guy that posted the comment about reducing the amount of water flow from north to south by 1% each year... not a bad idea. or... lets just duke it out. jk as for the law against Diesel trucks, whats next? i dont want my adorable little car to even have the possibility of getting the ax because the ignorant population views all diesels as dirty, filthy beasts. if it did come to that law getting passed, and even stricter laws, i'd be leavin' this state of fruits and nuts also. |

my understanding is that if you dont have a campershell on your truck its a "commercial" vehicle... or so i've been told.

You may get passenger plates on an uncampered truck, but if you ten carry anything that exceeds the height of the bed (not cab, bed) you are in for a nasty fine if caught. -nB

depends who you ask
"Kalifornia" is popular right now due to the "governator", "Kalistan" has been used to describe our "legislation", and I really wonder what it would be if my vote had won during the recall (Larry Flint FTW*). -nB *Hey at least he's completely honest about the ***** in his closet.

I dont know about that....When I got my old 77 GMC yrs ago, it had an old Bronco shell rigged on it, full of cracks and a heavy beast, so off it went, I never even thought about the guy having changed the plates, 2 yrs later I got pulled over for it, no load at all in the truck, the cop had a pet peeve for wrong tags on trucks he said. I pulled the "stupid" number...What do you mean commercial tags, this is my personal truck, not a business truck, and these came with it when I bought it...he pointed out several examples driving by and expalined it in detail, wrote a fixxit ticket for a whopping $12, and mentioned it is considered felony registration fraud. It's really a very old outdated law from back in the day of old model T's when pickup trucks were the commercial truck of the day, Cali just conveniently forgot to update that one because they saw a good place to make TONS of extra cash. They really should update it to work off of being registered for business use or to a business to truly do it righteously.

I think Kalifornia is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. I visited many times and think its great. What I can't stand however is its Government and laws. Given that the government is elected then it would seem that there is a whole lot of group stupidity happening out there.
I couldn't live there. I am surprised when I hear that people there are fed up with whats happening yet they seem powerless to stop it. What I find far more disturbing is the "Kalifornia creep" Either at a governmental level or from Kalifornians moving to other areas is the adoption of Kali laws in other parts of the country. If Kali is so great and you love it there then fine, please stay there! Keep your laws too. Ask people from Texas, the urban Tech areas, what they think of Kalifornians moving in and likely you'll get an earful. Same with Oregon, Arizona and Washington. May be anecdotal but the folks I've met from these places are not particularly understanding when Kali's "attitude" is imported. Check out Tool's track Arizona Bay. Kinda how I feel most times. RT

I'm an ex-Kalifornian that still loves the physical state of CA - the weather; the terrain of mtns, beaches, deserts, farmland and forests; In N Out Burger; and quite a few of the sensible people. However, being more independent and conservative minded, I found myself being the little Dutch boy with a finger in the dike. More and more political crap like this diesel proposal was passed "to keep us all safe". (Anyone remember the San Francisco plastic bag tax?) In addition, with the huge influx of non-taxpayers flooding the state, I realized that I, a hard working middle-class taxpayer, would be the one footing the bill. While I was active and dutifully voted, I realized that I was responsible for myself (and my family) and could not stem the flow away from values I believed in - hard work, self sufficiency, choices, and personal freedoms. That led to a very personal decision to move to another state. As a previous poster stated, it isn't heaven and it has it's own set of issues. However, it is more in line with what I hold dear. It doesn't make me right and it doesn't make those who stayed in CA wrong.
I do find all the different viewpoints interesting. And I do believe the politicians in CA are selfishly doing the citizens of CA a disservice. That is a general statement that can be universally applied, but more so in CA. .....Dan at aslowerpace dot com
