I hate to be the wet blanket here, but we are talking about a '78 300SD right? You've already dropped a grand into it, it runs, it even has reverse, but it's under powered for your hills, and it has 240K minimum on the clock. I'd stash the 2 grand and use it fix to the next breakdown....which could happen right after you get it outta the paint shop!
Just because you have the money does not require you to spend it. To be under budget is a good thing...enjoy it while you can!

I don't think it is underpowered, I think the talk was a W115 would be underpowered. Right?

the 78 is definitely not underpowered for my daily driving.
If I was going up into the mountains everyday then she might not be the best car for the job. As for saving the cash, I WISH! We own two businesses (bar and tanning salon) and if I try to save it for future repairs it will only get sucked up into one of the bizs that find a need. If I want to save money for something I have to keep it cash in my sock drawer. Not kidding there. I'm saving for something now and I have $300 toward it, all in my sock drawer! I think I'll keep it stock silver. . . Oh and the USB posts on my laptop fried so I can't post pictures,

A silver car with navy interior would look good with some parts painted navy, like the top or the lower parts of the sides.....without painting the jambs. If you did that you would want to avoid overspray on the jambs through the door cracks.
But I would not personally choose to two tone a benz. Tom W

The paint Maaco and the like use is junk. I had Earl Schieb paint my VW Van and the paint chipped very easily. My father in law had a Maaco painted car and the paint started to fade after a few years. If you are going to do it, do it right.
