how many ounces is a full charge of R12 in the 1987 300SDL

I would like to know some data about AC charge in the 126.
1) how many ounces of R12 needed if system is completely empty and clean.
2) how many ounces of oil in the system (split in compressor and dryer
3) Is BJ frigi quiet the compressor oil to use.
Is anyone on the Forum who could guide me trough the process
I have the R12 license, know some basics but I am not an expert.
My system is not working since I own the car 3 years ago. No pressure on the system. And I want to get the AC back to work. Thanks
Martin

On my W126, I think its something like 2.9 pounds of R-12. Yours could be different. I think you should replace the drier and possibly the expansion valve with new o-rings for all. Not sure about the oil. As for the oil requirements, I think you need to drain and measure what oil was in those componets and fill them back with the same amount of fresh oil.

Did you even find the source of the leak? It would be a shame to go through all that work only to have it leak out again.

AC leak

No, I haven't looked for the leak yet but would love to. This might be one of the first tasks. . I hope it is not a leaking evaporator.
Can you tell me how to search for the leak in the system successfully?
pump air in, like 5 bar and watch how the system holds the pressure?

Second task would be testing the compressor?
Can any one guide me?
Martin

I had in mind to check the operation of the compressor, short it with the low pressure switch and see if the clutch engages, then try to turn it. May be tak e it out and drain as much as I can. Is that what you call drain? I for sure will put all new o-rings on, new dryer and expansion valve. Looking for the leak at forst might be a good option. So at least I can see if there is major leak somewhere. Martin

Proper R-12 Charge in '87 300SDL
I found the very same sticker in my SDL: 1300g (2.86 pounds or 46.85 oz) of R12
Any idea how much compressor oil is needed? SOem say 8 oz, 4 in the compressor 4 in the dryer?
How precise do I need to be when filling? Are 3 cans with 14oz = 42oz ok?
Or do I need 3.3 cans? What are you doing with the open cans.
How do you handle this in reality?
