Search on George Murphy. He sells them. He has a phone number but no web site.

And he is a very nice and pleasant man to deal with!
Get some sunroof paste from him while your at it, and with the order he sends a brochure with all kinds of goodies.

The kits don't work properly for the dual pods. The travel will not be correct.

The single pods can be rebuilt with the kit.

It takes about 5 minutes...........provided you have four hands.

You can get a tool to spread the pod locking tabs with minimal risk of damage. If George doesn't sell the tool, an on-line store that goes by mblux or something like that used to.

Rediaphragming the pods is easy. Getting the pods out and putting them back is a PITA.

The $10.00 tool is practically useless. In theory, it will compress all four tabs at once..........but, in reality, it's impossible to use.

I just carefully pop two tabs and ease the cover forward to hold them. Then do the other two.........very carefully..........like it's dynamite.

Getting the pods out and back in is easy. Getting to the pods, now that is hard.

Not if my dash is sitting on my bench in my basement

Seriously, if anyone needs to fix the pods, I would encourage them to just take the dash off if the car can be down for a few days...it ain't that bad. and while youre there do lots of other PM...like replace all the ACC vacuum connectors etc.

That hard part, or more accurately the time consuming part. Is taking all the pieces off to get to the vacuum pods. At least that is the case in the 124. AFAIK you have to remove the dash to access the pods. It's not like you just take out a couple fasteners and the whole dash comes out. It's just a tad more complicated than that.

Having heard unfavorable reports about the longevity of rebuilt pods, I just bought all new ones for my 124. I hadn't heard about replacing connectors, though. Which additional parts should be replaced at the same time, since I only intend to do this once?

That's good to know, especially since that's the type I need to rebuild/replace. For the price, though, I could live with non-MB-spec travel, given that the pod is completely inop and removed at the moment!

Same conclusion I reached when I replaced the evaporator this past August.

Research indicated less than optimal results using the rebuild method, and coupled with the amount of work involved, I opted to replace all the pods with new.

I'm not sorry I made that chioce.

I just called on the diaphragms for the small (black) vacuum pods in the early 124, not available, need to buy the entire pod. Same with the rectangular ones. The larger round (pink and yellow) have diaphragms available.
