w123 primer pump
 

Hi i am stuck removing the diesel primer pump on my w123,a friend suggested i just screw it out,well its too tight,ive removed the hard plastic line to the left of it and the ruber hose to the right side of it now im stuck trying to pull it out,can anyone help out>? aNY SUGGESTIONS??

unscrew it (left loosey/righty tighty)

A crow's foot on a long extension bar works great.

If you are going to toss it when you are done and if normal wrenches do not work a pipe wrench or chain wrench might do the trick.
If there is not enough room get a wrench on it you can remove the whole supply pump; there are 3 nuts with washer holding it on. You can put the supply pump in a vice (do not grip it any where near the mounting flange where the three stud holes are drilled as you will break it). Grip it on the main body. Another way would be to squash the primer pump assembly in the vice and use a wrench to turn the supply pump; again staying away from the thin flange where it mounts to the IP.

I use a plumbers faucet wrench, works fine. If you have a Euro you must remove the two fuel lines as the pump is imposable too get to without doing so.

but it is for us model i guess,on my euro i had 22mm and most sockets were too fat to fit in so the vicegrips method was best.

I tried this recently on the TD euro and gave up cuz I could not remove the nut adjacent to the primer pump nut. I could not get a grip on the primer nut with the adjacent nut in place. I gotta think this thru next time.

The plumbers wrench may work. I have one but never occurred to me to use it.

I used a stubby 22 mm wrench and also took off on of the lines adjascent to the primer pump. I dunno if that'll help but it worked for me.

The supply line coming into the IP...remove that and the nipple that it attaches to...I think that was a deep 22mm socket. Now you have room to get at the bottom of the primer pump.

In fact, I went and got a 22mm stubby from sears when I was doing this. I could not budge that adj nut and i did not want to mess it up so I put the work aside for later.

I beleive I did this too. But I'm a bit careful with this stuff now. I'd rather err on the side of caution and care than break something especially in an area like the IP assembly:eek:
