Was wanting to know if the short hose between the water pump & water pump housing can be replaced without removing the water pump housing on an 83 300D? Didn't want to have to remove it from the head if I didn't have to.

All you need to remove is the thermostat housing. Two bolts, two hose clamps.
And I think that you will find that the water pump is not on the head, anyway. |
It looks to me the housing is mounted on the side of the head and like maybe it has a water jacket connection there that flows thru as well. Like maybe you need a gasket there. So, I wasn't sure if I needed a gasket where it mounts to the head or not?

There is a paper gasket between the tstat housing and the block. There is none on the water pump housing.
You do need to remove the tstat housing but not the water pump.....I agree with the above poster. Before removing anything though check the hose clamps on the short hose. Tom W |
It's not the hose clamps. I have tried tightening them to no avail. I am not for sure if that upper housing might develop holes in it or not? Before I go any further I will probably need to order a gasket for the tstat housing at the head. That would invite the opportunity for another leak if I don't.
