So far, the Curt hitch, as displayed by 'mobetta', is the only one I;ve seen on this thread that I would consider installing on a W123 with US bumpers. The various designs that bolt to the body and bumper itself, look like they could damage both in a collision, or even under load. as I've heard of these bumpers corroding and separating from the bumper-shocks.

Happy Motoring, Mark

123 Chassie Wagon Trailer Hitch

Working at the M.B. Dealer back in 1979 I was fortunate to install 2 OEM Trailer Hitches on the 123 Wagons. I have 2 Wagons, 1 with a OEM Hitch. Be VERY Cautious installing a Aftermarket one! Keep in Mind they are 5 Mile an Hour Bumpers and HAVE to GIVE!! Like to add some Pics but dont know how.

Here's 1 example;
84' 300CD with Euro factory hitch, 84' U-Haul travel trailer. Drove from West coast, Newport Beach, to the East coast, Jersey Shore, and back, over 7,000 miles.

I ran the numbers on the weight, 1200 lbs for the trailer, and the 140 lb tongue weight. Mercedes weight limits(see chart).

Damages;
One set of rear axles, left rear window regulator and a blown head gasket.
