A Good 300CD TO AVOID on eBay

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&viewitem=&item=290202165921

This guy has been trying to sell this car for at least a year and a half. What he does not disclose is the awful rust repair job done to the underside of the car. The rockers and jackpoints look like they are 90% bondo and painted over. And the other work looks like it was done by a real hack mechanic.

And did I mention the seller is a bit of a psycho? Well he is...avoid him and his car if you know what's good for you. He had originally listed it in Hemmings for something like $12K when I first contacted him and looked at it...I told him then he was very optimistic on his price.

Over time the price dropped and he kept calling me, leaving messages on my office answering machine and emailing to see if I was still interested. Finally I emailed him to tell him I thought that unless he set his sights at about $3K for that car he'd have it for a long time...he emailed back "I sold the car for $7500 smart ass".

Well, that was over a year ago - then about 6 months ago the calls and emails started again - I guess he forgot he told me it was sold. So again, I emailed to tell him I wasn't interested and reminded him that he told me it was sold a while back. He claimed it was sold but the guy's bank loan fell through...right. What kind of bank finances a 23 year old car? None I have ever dealt with.

He's some sort of a laser surgeon but had his license to practice pulled by the Commonwealth of Mass I found out when I googled him. He's also a curbstone dealer but the story he tells is his wife's family is in the car business...whatever. He is just a good guy to avoid. The car looks much better in the photos than it does in real life, believe me. Also, the driver seat is trashed but he doesn't mention that nor does he have a photo of it. Another tipoff.

I don't see a problem with this car ... the valve cover gasket was replaced in 2004:D. The engine is so good, it hasn't needed a valve adjustment in the last 4 years.

I love these people that think a 200 mile road trip is a true mark of how undeniably reliable and comfortable these cars are.

Sheesh, there were a few days one week last summer for my job, I was driving the benz... I expect on 3 different occasions I put over 500 miles in a day on the thing. Not to mention that 200 miles is a round trip for me any time I get in to go to college and back....

Just had to find something to laugh at this morning :D

what about his claims of going "90k MPH" - really? 90,000 MPH

He also claims to get over 30 MPG...more hype.

He did a heck of a detailing job, especially on the engine. Amazing how $100 into a good cleaning can make a bucket look like a throne.

200 miles? Thats it? Any clunker can complete a 200 mile trip.

He must be dreaming if he thinks he is traveling that fast!

90k mph..... must be a turbo.

Is that a white MB battery though? Odd that somebody that lets a rust repair job get as bad as it has been claimed to me - would put a Merc overpriced battery in the car.

"We recently drove this fabulous car 200 miles round trip, Cruised to 90k mph like a dream Got many "thumbs up" on the road---and over 30mpg"

Lemmie see, carry the 1 and divide by zero....

So he burnt 6-1/3 gallons of liquid schwartz and got there and back in 13 milliseconds. Sounds legit to me...

ForcedInduction 01-28-2008 11:13 PM

Now hold on, he wasn't breaking the law. Light speed is 670,616,629mph so he was only going really really fast, not really really really fast.
