That is what I did on the last install. If we inquire enough they will probably go up on their pricing.

You can only adjust it to a certain point. I do not know if a 7psi actuator could be adjusted to open at 14psi without using an external boost controller. Just get a 14psi actuator and then it's a non-issue.

Just so I'm clear: the actuator from ATP that everyone's been using but that's currently out of stock, is it manufactured by Garrett?

I believe the one I bought from them was manufactured by Garrett, as it carried a Garrett part number engraved on the body. I don't think the aftermarket units would have that.

So we know that a T3 actuator will fit. It has bolt spacing 1-5/16.

So we just need to find an actuator that meets:
Bolt Space: 1-5/16
Opening Pressure: 14 psi.
Rod Length = 108mm (I think)?

It would be nice if we could get the GARRETT part number for what ATP has as 433489-12.

I've been talking to a local Garrett rep....as long as they have Garrett part numbers, they seem confident that they can track stuff down. I would really like to find the Garrett part number for the turbo in a 1987 190D. I called Mercedes but they only have Mercedes part numbers.

Try 432340-0004

I think thats the actuator that was on the 190D.

Actuators - Garrett Racing - Applications - TurboMaster

However according to that sheet, its NLA too. One of these might work in place:

432340-0015 12.7-14.0 M6x1.0
432340-0017 15.6-16.4 M6x1.0

Not quite the same PSI as stock but a little bit higher or lower probably will not be too detrimental.

OK....I've got a Garrett rep researching it. Didn't show up in his system, so he'll have to do a little digging.

Hopefully they find something. Otherwise, off to eBay for me.

I recon my target is this guy:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/T25-T28-GT28-Turbo-Internal-Wastegate-Actuator-Nissan-/160420904912?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item2559d4bfd0

It meets length requirements, psi requirements. If seems like it will bolt right up to the bracket... If not.. bracket comes off, drill comes out.

Here is the response I received from ATP on adjusting the boost:

"That actuator was made available as a standalone part after your colleagues in the MB Diesel world requested it be made available to convert your turbo from vacuum actuated to pressure actuated. We have no idea what the "net" boost is once that actuator is installed on your engine. However, typical install is to adjust the rod length so that it's about an 1/8" too short to reach the wastegate arm and pull on it 1/8" to get it to hook on. That's about typical preload setting. Every actuator has about 1-2 psi of base pressure change depending on preload so if your boost gauge shows resulting boost is a bit low, you can adjust the rod a little bit short until you get the base boost pressure to be to your preferred boost pressure, via more preload."
So... its do-able? Is that what he's saying?

An update...and an idea.

432340-0004 is no longer available (according to Garrett rep).

433489-12 (the actuator that others have installed successfully) IS the Garrett part number (i.e. not simply the ATP reference number). So my Garrett buddy is now checking on that.

In our conversation, an interesting idea came up. He said, "Have you thought of installing a blow-off valve instead?" He said what some people do, instead of worrying about the wastegate, is install a blowoff valve somewhere downstream from the turbo. I don't know much about any of this stuff, but I thought I'd pass along the idea for those of you more knowledgeable to consider. Wouldn't it be cool if such a device could be installed at the EGR blocking plate?

Then we'd all sound like those ricer cars!

You would have to install the valve somewhere in the intake tube area.

In a perfect world, it would replace the EGR! That would be a nice direct bolt-on solution.

Kris, I'm telling you, YOU ARE THE MAN. You need to be a pioneer here and figure this out. Then we could be a whole new breed....wastegates of any kind will be a thing of the past.

GSXR, any thoughts on blowoff valves?

I think we'd have to do some fab work in order to make a flange + tube connect to the EGR port and then connect to a blow off valve. I think it would be do-able though. Just some planning and fab work and then we'd have to make sure the wastegate was securely closed.

According the Garrett distributor to whom I spoke, the 433489-12 actuator is no longer available.
