Just Bought A 1999 E300

Hi,
We just bought a 1999 E300.The car is blue over beige MB-Tex.I have a few questions. The glow plug light turns off allowing me to start the car normally, then after a few seconds the glow plug light comes back on.The car runs fine. What could this be?

It must indicate a fault. I'm sure someone will chime in.

All 1999 diesels have leather inserts, FWIW.

Enjoy the car, they're great machines - - one of DBAG's finest :)

It's probably a bad relay. Do the plugs come on? Does the lamp go out once the plugs shut off?

Hi,
Yes the glow plugs go on,then go off allowing me to start the car. After the car is on,after a few seconds, the glow plug light comes back on.

Just take a minute with a meter to verify it is just the light coming back on and not the glow plugs as well.

Check the resistance on all the plugs ,since i have 1 bad one the light comes on for a short time after the engine is running. It is explained in my owners manual that is an indication of a fault in the system, was my first tip off that i had a bad plug. My $.02 Don

Indicates a fault with one or more glow plugs, or associated circuitry.

Drive to Bryan, OH and I will teach how to do everything that requires the removal of the intake manifold on a 606. Fuel o-rings. fuel lines, glow plugs, muffler bearings:rolleyes: (changing tires is about the only thing that does not require removal of the intake:D) I can remove a W210 turbo intake in less than twenty minutes....

Now that's a nice offer there......

On my 97 e300 it indicated a weak glow plug(s). They had been in for over 60k when I bought the car, had the manifold off for intake cleaning so I replaced them all and the issue went away.
