Uhhhh silly strange horn problem ?
Hey all
I am a newbie to both cars and the venerable diesel w123 so please bear with me. Over the winter my battery died so I had to replace it. Well in the process of taking out the old battery and putting in the new one something came loose and I had in my hand a horn with one of two leads attached to it, thats it. The horn doesn't look like it was screwed onto anything ... it must have been just hanging on from the leads in the engine bay all that time. One lead came off (the screw holding it vanished) and the two leads join together in a sleeve that has a little yellow sticker on it that says "Horn". So I put the horn in the trunk figuring I would find out where it is supposed to go in the engine bay, find the missing screw and then put it all back together. Simple right? Well ... I am driving around a day later (yay new battery), when I bump the center of the steering wheel and a horn sounded. So does the w123 have two horns? ... anyone know where the horn is? or what the heck is going on? Thanks .... |

Forgot to say:
Its a 1985 w123 300D. 224miles on it. (American) Not the best shape physically but the engine is strong |

The horn for the alarm system is under the battery. The two warning horns are mounted behind the front bumper.

Some cars have 2 horns and they often have slightly different tones. I guess the 1 good horn is still working.

Was an alarm a standard feature on those cars?

Don't know. But the horn was right beside the battery box so I figure theo3000 must be correct. It could also be a 2 horn car ...

I think it was standard in the US, but mine was too sensitive, so I disabled it.
