300d wiper problem

The other day I was driving my 1984 300d turbodiesel in the rain and the windshield wipers just quit on me. They haven't worked since (probably a month now). I bought the car about a year ago and the previous owner did a lot of shoddy electrical work, so I'm not sure if the wiper motor failed, or if the problem is in the wiper control switch, or something else... Is there anything I can do to start trying to diagnose where this problem is comming from? Also, related perhaps to something screwy with the wiring or maybe just a bad switch, the headlights and turn signals only work intermittently when the low beams are on, but everything is fine if the high beams are on. Hmm...is my problem just with the switch that controls all of those functions? Thanks for any help/advice!

It sounds like it may be. Just curios, did you check the fuses? I blew a fuse for my wipers once

Agreed, #6, red 16 amp, this fuse is for the wipers and washers only, good luck.

Thanks, I'll check the fuses and get back to you. Is this the fuse box on the driver's side firewall under the hood that I should be checking?

Check pic.
Just loosen the two hand screws.
