Question Speedo needle sticks at 0...

...and if I tap the clear glass it jumps right to attention. It makes me think maybe my repainted needle is sticking to the post as opposed to the speedo cable binding. Once it gets going its fine.

Anybody have this?

I'll graphite spray down the speedo cable anyways as suggested in the archives. I know other models have this issue and they sell plastic covers for the needle 0 stop pin.

Thanks,
dd

I had the same symptom on my 84 300D.

I have always assumed it was a repainted needle issue. Funny thing is that it stopped sticking some time ago.

Mine did that after I repainted it. I had to open it up again to fix my odometer a second time and put a slight film of oil on the peg. That fixed the problem.

If you can find some small heatshrink teflon tubing that might work. I might have some here if I look around.

Make sure the needle didn't get bent and is in contact with the face of the speedo. I've had this happen. But it sounds more like the needle is stuck to the post.

I had one of those clear plastic covers on my speedometer peg only. When I repainted the gauge needles I had the same problem. I used the casing of some really small gauge wire (it was black) to cover the peg and it has worked fine since.
