preasurized oil source
I am installing a Motor Guard toilet paper bypass oil filter in a 240 d. My son who is in his second year of diesel mechanics program at the local college does not like my idea of taking the oil from the top of the filter canister as some people have done. he is concerned that this will interfear with the oilfilter.
We are having no luck finding a local source for the proper size fitting to take the oil from the oil presure guage line. I understand it is a 12 x 1.25 metric. Any ideas where I might get the fittings ? what exactly would they be called so I get what I want the first time ? Thanks in advance JOHN |

Maybe try www.mcmaster.com they have lots of fittings, not sure what the one you would need would be called though

No matter where you hook up the other bypass oil filter it is going to bleed off alittle of the oil pressure and volume. I was thinking to drill and tap a hole in the top cover of the oil filter myself; but to install another pressure gauge.
Thank you for answering a question that I had but never ask. I was wondering if those toilet papper oil filters were still around as I remember seeing the adds in Popular Mechanics as far back as the late 50s.

Is there anyone out there that knows how many microns the stock oil filters will filter out?
I was suprised to find this site: http://www.bypassfilter.com/faqs.htm

MTU is right, taking the source from the filter housing will not alter the stock filter's operation.

Which oil do you want to be filtering, though, dirty or filtered? If you tap the top of the housing (or on any section of the cylindrical part of the housing), you'll be filtering the dirty oil and will clog the bypass filter sooner. If you tap into the plate on the rear of the housing, you will be getting filtered oil (IIRC, there are two chambers that rear plate covers, one being dirty and one being filtered).

I just wanted to connect a pressure guage so for me it is not so critical. Is the oil allready filtered where the stock oil pressure guage comes out? I was looking at the turbo charger oil tubing banjo bolt down at the bottom of the filter and thinking it might be possible to tap into the head of the banio bolt as I believe the bolt is hollow inside. A roll of toilet papper would make a large buy pass filter if you did tap into a unfiltered oil area I still might last a long time before needing to be changed.

Maybe you can tell me. The stock oil filter has 2 parts. How many mircons will the bottom pleated paper part filter down to? Also how man microns will the larger upper part filter down to (I understand it is filled with raw cotton)?

It will filter next to nothing. The cotton allows oil channels to form which completely ruins the point of having a bypass section.
