83 300sd engine issues?

Ok,
Continuing with this new to me car...
I think I got the t-stat to stop leaking.
the car has been parked for 2 weeks+ and started good. But while letting it idle, I noticed that the idle went up and down, And it sounded like a rod knock or an injector issue. It stops when the engine is reved, or warm.
Why the strange idle? What to do about the knock? or not be concerned. There is no blow by. Have not done a compression test yet.
I also looks like someone had an SVO system on it that was removed (except a filter)

Thanks
Doug

Could be some issues related to the wvo use. Others who know more about that will post I imagine.

Any engine that has been sitting for a couple of years needs about 1000 miles under it's belt before you begin troubleshooting it. It might have vestiges of the WVO in the system and the injectors might be in marginal shape.

I'd use 16 ounces of Power Service in each of the two tanks (for 1000 miles).

Make sure you do a good bit of high power running during the 1000 miles.

After that period........then evaluate it and see where you are.
