What's it worth??
I have a 1980 300D with approximately 106k on it. The odometer recently stopped working. The drivers side front and back windows do not go up or down (the motors do work), and there is no A/C just heat (the blower works). As of last weekend the engine won't turn off without popping the hood and hitting the stop switch.
Oh and did I mention it has a salvage title from a front right accident (happened prior to my ownership) Who's ready to play what's it worth? |

try locking the drivers door while you're inside the car before turing off the key.
Wait a minute then turn off the key and see if that doesn't stop the engine. If so you have a vacuum leak. Around here that car would still go for $2000. . .

It's been a Califonia car for as long as I can tell with no rust to be seen. I'll try the door lock idea. Thank you.

Around here I would think less than 1000. the speedometer could easily have been broken for fifteen years.

The odo stopped working about 2 months ago. The interior is in great shape other than a few hairline cracks in the dash and a small halfa dime sized hole in the front passenger seat.

With those issues AND a salvage title, it's not worth much. Maybe $750

The salvage title is a big killer for selling price. Also, many folks (like me) flat out disbelieve a mileage figure that low on a car that old unless there is substantial documentary evidence supporting it.
If the mileage is well documented, the repair from the accident is excellent (as in undetectable or nearly so), and the overall condition is good, you might be in the $1500 range. Otherwise, I'm thinking $500-1000.

Salvage title is a downer.....
Quote:
I just bought a running 1983 300D turbodiesel with 146K miles on it for $500 with a good, clean title; needs a dash, front windshield, LOTS of paint, and probably numerous other things. Has new front rotors and brakes, though.

Well, I bought my '83 in a little worse shape than what you've described at 293,000 miles for $800. Location seems to be a big influence. I hear these cars command ridiculous prices in the coastal Oregon/Washington area. Here in Nevada they're a dime a dozen.
