Pictorial on how to replace the windshield washer nozzles
I just finished up another pictorial how how to replace the windshield washer nozzles.

I have replaced both of the electric washer motors on my SDL in the past two years. They just randomly stopped working. Probably from lack of use on that car.:D

My passenger nozzle was just dribbling fluid on the hood, pooled up, and being a problem. So I replaced the nozzles, but that wasn't good enough, everything got replaced, tank, motor, all lines too.
In the second pic, you can see where I installed an inline filter. The flex hose is a little larger outside diameter than stock, but fits. I still have all the parts, and may put the old motor back in, as the passenger side now sprays over the roof at interstate speeds. |
My sd has heated nozzles. How does that work, is the heater on when it gets cold, or when you push the nozzle button? Id imagine if it was only when you push the nozzle button it would take some time for it to unthaw.

my washer tank is leaking, I need new nozzles and lines.
|
"Unthaw" would be the same as freeze, I believe you mean thaw?
Anyway, the nozzles are on with the key, thermostatically controlled, same as the mirror heaters and in later models the lock heaters. Replacing the heated nozzles in the 124 and 201 is a bit more difficult than the ones in the DieselGiant tutorial, but pretty much self-explanitory as you go. |
Thank you.
Russell, Thank you for your continued contributions to the Mercedes Diesel community. If you ever get a chance, I (and many others) would be really interested in seeing a DIY on a steering gear box rebuild, including how to assess the condition of the internal worm gear, etc.
Thanks again. |
If they are not spraying in the right direction you can aim them using a needle/pin etc stuck into the nozzle hole and moving it around.

See my attached picture.... |
I have one pointed as far up as possible.. that way I get one to go over the car and mess with the person behind me.
It's fun on overcast days because they think its raining |
The only problem I have ever had with my windshield washer system is the damn plastic nozzle on the washer fluid motor. Its broke on both my 300SD's I have owned :(
|
Mine has a problem with the hose binding. No matter how I route it, it gets bound, and in some cases, punctured by the hood hinges and/or springs. I have to pop the hood up, hit the washer button to get some fluid in the system and close it to get it working properly sometimes.

Thanks. |
If you are going to replace them, its a great time to upgrade to dual two-jet nozzles.
