bolt on top of primary filter

My question is about the large bolt on top of the main fuel filter that is to be loosened when changing the big primary fuel filter.

Is there suppose to be a washer or a rubber O-ring under this bolt?

If so...which one and where can I buy one or what size is it?

Thanks

An '82 should have a metal seal under the bolt head and one o-ring on the bolt shaft.

No that it matters, but that's the secondary filter. The primary filter is in the hose prior to the fuel pump.

I will see if I can find a new seal to measure for you.

Edit: Apparently I don't have the spare seal that I thought I had. You might be able to find an oil plug gasket at a parts store that might fit.

There are a couple of different varaties, depending on the year.

Pull the bolt completely out. (Sometimes they are stubborn, but just pull on it). If it has 2 o-rings, it doesn't use a washer. If it has only one o-ring, it uses a washer.

Part numbers have been posted in the past for the two different sized o-rings and for the washer.

Usually turbos have two "o" rings on the bolt shaft and no washer under the bolt head. But check the part number on the filter head unit, it should be 615 092 02 08. If there is an 01, that is the style that needs a washer and one "o" ring.

My information suggests that the two o-ring units were first installed in '83.

Latest P/N for the washer is: N007603 018101. It's copper rather than the original aluminum. According to MB they are no longer being produced, but they're still out there.

Maybe so, check the number to be sure.
