Looking for another one ....

Benz fanz,

I'm looking for another diesel merc and have several questions:

1. Is there a best year for 300D turbo? decent years?
2. Is there a worst year - stay away from?
3. easiest to work on?
4. hardest to work on?

Thanks

85 is the best year.

Best rear diff, added vacuum technology made the transmission work PERFECT. Make sure you get a federal version and not a california. But realy any year is good. Btw the 300d didnt get the turbo till 1982 I think, maybe 1981. The earlier s klasses did though

The very best turbo 123 is the one with the best care and records to prove it over the last 25 years.
With that said, probably the best year is the '84 Federal - by '84 MB had put all the engineering and improvements into the car that they were going to. The '85 is essentially the same as the California cars - it has all the polution crap that the earlier Federal cars don't have.
All the 123's are fairly easy to work on.
