tachometer 124 diesel not working

Hi people! anyone know why my tach doesn't work on my 124 300TD?? it worked when I got it... then intermittent, now never....
also, I have an oil leak. my shop says that's normal with mb diesels. because of all the pressure in the engine or so. but my wife *****es about our driveway all the time. is it hard to get the benz not to leak? I investigated some with the ol' mac light and it looks like every seal and gasket is leaking. is that really normal for a mercedes benz?? I mean, they are supposed to be so good right?
thanks all!

Tachometer

check out this thread: (you'll have to copy and paste into GOOGLE'S search
bar,I cannot create a direct link)

124 tach wire routing/path help...

The shop is incorrect:a properly maintained Mercedes Diesel does not leak!

The shop is correct leaks will occur: AND REMAIN until they are sealed
properly by replacing the offending gasket/seal/o-ring,Etc.

The oil leaks are best diagnosed by cleaning the engine. Then you can really
see where/what is leaking.
Simple Green 1/2 and 1/2 with H2O and a cheap paintbrush works wonders.
Rinse GENTLY.
NO HIGH PRESSURE H2O blaster...either at the car wash or a pressure
washer in the driveway.
Remember you have a lot of Electrical connections and a few CPUs/Relays/
Etc. that do not tolerate moisture.
NEVER wash the Injection Pump when the engine is hot/warm..chance of
warping if exposed to cold water when at operating temperature.

when mine went out, it turned out to be the 10 amp fuse in the convenience relay (relay with red cap in it on the firewall near the break booster on the drivers side. theres a clear plastic cover over the fuse) hope it helps!
